CAREER Pathways Challenge
The future looks promising for youth. Over $103,500 raised in the CAREER Pathways 30-day Challenge to support career preparation and internships.
At a time when students have begun the school year, CAREERS: The Next Generation (CAREERS) wrapped up its 30-day Challenge to raise $100,000 in support of youth career preparation and internships. The Alberta-based charity raised $103,500, which will connect students to internships to train for careers that will be in demand when they graduate, giving them a competitive advantage once they enter the job market.
“We want to thank everyone who so generously donated to this campaign,” says Andy Neigel, CAREERS President and CEO. “We received such overwhelming support from across Alberta. Gifts came in all sizes, and each one of them will help youth prepare to fill the skilled workforce needs of the future.”
Donations were maximized through the Shaw Birdies for Kids Program and through an additional $25,000 in matching funds provided by Eric Newell, former CEO of Syncrude and founder of CAREERS.
CAREERS introduces high school students to internships for careers that are in high demand. With an anticipated workforce shortage over the next decade, particularly in the trades, the work that CAREERS does is increasingly critical to providing a local solution. The charity’s rate of journeyperson completion out of its CAREERS Co-op Apprenticeship Program is a remarkable 94%, which means those tradespeople will go on to train and supervise more apprentices in the future.
While the campaign itself has come to an end, Neigel urges those who believe in youth futures to continue their support. “It’s never too late to give youth the best gift you can give them – their first job. We’re always looking for employers who support internships in their workplace and, of course, rely on the generous support of our donors.” He goes on to wish students all the best this school year, adding “The future is promising for you to pursue an incredible career.”
